Kim’s wish was to connect with Jamie Oliver who inspired her to help others
On the 2nd of November 2024, Kim’s Ambulance Wish was fulfilled when she received a letter from Jamie Oliver, who inspired her to help others.
Kim, a devoted child health nurse in her 60’s, dedicated part of her career to helping at-risk families, young mothers, and victims of domestic violence. For two years, she served on a program teaching essential life skills, including cooking—a skill that can often be a lifeline for those in need. Inspired by chef Jamie Oliver’s work promoting healthy eating and cooking skills, she encouraged mothers to create gardens and cook nutritious meals, planting seeds of self-reliance and wellness in their lives. Years later, some of these mothers still reach out to thank her, a testament to the lasting impact of her work.
Kim’s Ambulance Wish was to connect with Jamie Oliver and let him know how profoundly his mission resonated with her and enriched the lives of those she supported. The Ambulance Wish SA team managed to share Kim’s story with Jamie’s team in the UK. Touched by her dedication, Jamie wrote a heartfelt letter for Kim, sharing his appreciation for her “brilliant” work. This letter, arriving on Kim’s birthday, was an unforgettable moment for Kim and her family, who described it as “fantastic”.
While this Wish didn’t require our Wish Ambulance, Ambulance Wish SA also fulfils onsite wishes, such as this. Kim’s wish marks our first onsite wish.
The fulfilment of this wish has sparked joy across continents, underscoring the power of human connection and the deep impact of a shared mission to help others.
